Statement Of Intent
Q1. How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework (media language, media representations, media industries and media audiences) to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?
My brief is to produce a concise 3-minute music video for a narrative song by a fictional band signed to Beggars Group. The video will incorporate a diverse range of camera shots, editing techniques, mise en scene elements, and will feature at least two characters from different social groups. Using media language, I aim to establish visual and thematic clarity. The choice of camera angles, lighting, and visual effects will contribute to the emotional tone, synchronising with the song's narrative. The pacing of edits will align seamlessly with the music's rhythm, appealing specifically to young adults aged 18-25. The narrative focuses on themes of friendship, inclusion, and self-discovery, resonating strongly within this age group. Creative intentions align with Beggars Group’s ethos, emphasising narrative storytelling through music videos. Drawing on the company’s history of supporting diverse artistic expressions, my video will feature mise en scene set in a school environment. Visual elements such as props, costumes, and set design will reinforce the narrative, with the classroom symbolising the journey's beginning and hallway scenes depicting unity among characters. Intertextual links with Bastille's "Pompeii" will enhance the audience's connection, using symbolic elements inspired by the song's themes. Inclusivity and diversity will be promoted by representing characters like Yaser, Tyrese, and Daisy, embodying unique backgrounds for a relatable and inclusive atmosphere. The overarching theme of friendship and unity aims to resonate universally, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own relationships. Filming in a school setting enhances relatability, and adherence to music video conventions, such as performance shots and stylized editing, maintains genre standards. Editing synchronisation with the song’s rhythm and lyrics ensures a seamless flow, strategically timed transitions enhance emotional impact, and visual storytelling interprets lyrics through characters' expressions and actions, complementing the lyrical narrative.
On the website, I intend to seamlessly extend the music video narrative for the same audience using media language. Visually engaging graphics, fonts, and layout will mirror the music video's emotional tone. Vibrant colours and dynamic design elements will capture the attention of young adults aged 18-25, aligning with themes of friendship, inclusion, and self-discovery. The website content, written in concise and relatable language, will further connect with the audience, providing a cohesive online experience. Creative intentions for the website align with Beggars Group's emphasis on narrative storytelling. Reflecting the company's history of supporting diverse artistic expressions, the website will seamlessly integrate the music video's narrative elements. This approach resonates with the record company's ethos, creating a consistent and compelling storytelling experience for visitors. Lost Fortune’s identity will be conveyed through a visually cohesive and distinctive design on the website, utilising colour schemes and imagery from the music video to establish a recognizable brand identity. Incorporating codes and conventions of music-related websites ensures familiarity and ease of navigation. A user-friendly layout, clear menu options, and responsive design for various devices will be implemented. Interactive features like music samples, behind-the-scenes content, and a newsletter sign-up adhere to artist/band website conventions, providing an immersive and enjoyable experience. Consistent updates and news feeds align with industry standards, keeping the audience engaged and informed.
Q2. How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?
I intend to create a seamless and cohesive brand identity across the music video and website, acknowledging the digitally convergent nature of media production. The visual elements, color schemes, and imagery from the music video will be mirrored on the website, ensuring consistency. Both platforms will engage young adults aged 18-25 through vibrant aesthetics and thematic resonance. By maintaining a unified narrative and design approach, the audience will seamlessly transition between the emotionally resonant music video and the immersive online experience, reinforcing the brand identity of the fictional band "Lost Fortune" across these interconnected digital mediums.

Lyrics of Fumes by Eden
The morning light shines a lifeline
Escape is what I need
I should've listened last night, girl
This is beyond belief
That we keep falling for the lure of
Liquid confidence and lies
And we, skydive from walls we built
Dying just to feel alive
On the way down screaming
Woah, oh, oh
If all we have is time, then we'll be alright
Woah, oh, oh
It's not much, but it's better than nothing
Woah, oh, oh
We're running on fumes, but we'll make it through the night
Woah, oh, oh
It's not love, but it's better than dreaming
Oh, I'm on fire
There's a burning in my bones and in my eyes
These dreams they're taking hold, I just need time
Time
Building walls to burn them down
Cannonballs to watch me drown
You've got me lost in here and now
You've got me gone and lost and found
We only hang in evenings and I don't know what I'm thinking
But I know that I won't think it if I keep up with this thinking
All these dreams and all these plans we shared under the moonlight
They're dreams and plans that I have, I just don't know if you'll fit right
When I leave in the morning, and I kiss you and say goodnight
I kick myself until we kick it, should've told you goodbye
Coming home so late at night with clothes covered in sand
I don't know just what I'm missing, but I'm doing what I can
And if all we have is time, then we will find...
Woah, oh, oh
If all we have is time, then we'll be alright
Woah, oh, oh
It's not much, but it's better than nothing
Woah, oh, oh
We're running on fumes, but we'll make it through the night
Woah, oh, oh
It's not love, but it's better than dreaming
